eSIM vs roaming: when you need us, and when you don't
We'd rather you trust us than buy something you don't need. Here is the honest version.
Use your Irish plan
EU/EEA destination and a bill-pay plan with a generous roaming allowance. Spain, Portugal, France, Italy for a week? Check your fair-use cap and go.
Check first
UK (post-Brexit, varies by operator), prepay plans with small EU caps, "unlimited" plans with a roaming fair-use limit, or sharing a hotspot with the family.
eSIM, almost always
USA, Canada, Turkey, Switzerland, UAE, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and everywhere else outside the EU. Rest-of-world roaming rates are where the bill shock lives.

How to check your own plan in two minutes
- Open your operator's app or log in to My Account.
- Find "Roaming" and note your EU/EEA data allowance (it may be lower than your home allowance).
- Look for the "Rest of World" or "Zone 3+" section. Note whether it's a daily pass or per-MB, and the price.
- Compare against the destination page here. If an eSIM saves money or removes risk, buy it; if not, don't.
